Gah. Haven’t updated in a while. Hmm…what happened…

Ok, yeah, so there was Valentine’s Day. For the first time, I had a date/boyfriend for V-Day. No longer was I in the group of singles who go out and celebrate Single’s Awareness Day.

I had a lovely weekend with The Samurai thankyouverymuch. We went out to a movie on Friday night and then to a nice Indian restaurant. Saturday, I had fencing practice and he had his ninjitsu, so we met up later in the afternoon to get some crepes and we just hung out the rest of the day. Saturday also happened to be his 21st birthday, so that was exciting. He didn’t really do anything for it; he just wanted the two of us to chill. It was all very low key. I got him a cd he had really wanted, as well as some chocolate covered cherries (the only kind of chocolate he really likes); he got me a bouquet of flowers and two French books. He surprised me later that evening by also giving me the soundtrack to “The Fog of War,” a movie/documentary/extended interview thingy of Robert S. McNamara which we had seen a few weeks ago (sidenote: if you get a chance to see the movie, I highly recommend it). Sunday, his parents and his sister came up to visit and to celebrate his birthday. I was invited to be introduced to them and go out with them, which was very cool. We had a relaxing (well, as relaxing as expected when meeting the parents for the first time) lunch at a cool Japanese restaurant. His parents were very nice, and everything went well I think. After lunch we went to see “The Triplettes of Belleville,” a really interesting French cartoon. The Samurai and I had already seen it, so we just sat and cuddled while everyone else paid attention to the movie. All in all, it was a lovely afternoon and we all got along well. He later told me that I had made a favorable impression (though I hadn’t said much during the outing), so that was nice to hear.

Nothing much happened during the week. Classes, sleep, lather rinse repeat.

Saturday, I had a fencing tournament at Tufts. Since the format was different than usual, our women’s sabre team was set (there are four of us, and since three makes a full team we usually rotate in and out of rounds so that we all get to fence), and I didn’t have the stats to fence. I was fine with not fencing; I thought it would be nice to just relax and cheer everyone else on. However, when we got there, I was informed that after the team competition ended, there would be a “second string” competition in which I’d be competing. So, I did get to relax and cheer everyone else from 9am to about 6pm, and then all of a sudden, I had to go compete. Since I had been up since 5.30, and had just been sitting around for most of the day, I was really tired and not much in the mood to fence. I did do pretty well though; I was 3-3 in my pool, and I actually got to advance to the second round (which was only 8 girls, out of 14). In that round, I was 3-4 (though I almost was 4-3, but I had lost a bout 5-4), and I was happy with my overall performance. Usually, I only ever win 3 bouts in an entire day, and here I had won 6 total. Granted, I was going against other second string fencers and I probably should have done better, but oh well. It was a long day and I had fun for the most part.

Ugh. I have a French paper to write, an outline of my History paper to do, and two essays for my study abroad application to ponder. Let the writening begin!
